The Mining Company build Mr Stirling a House
Mr James Stirling was the Mine Manager in 1734, when the mine company built him a very beautiful house. The house was built by William Adam, one of a family of architects, and whose great achievement is Hopetoun House.
The house in Leadhills is probably the only surviving small house that William Adam built.
Mr Stirling also established a reputation as a mathematician and supported the Jacobite cause.
